No One prepares you for the Lasts…. Mothers Day 2024.
After a thoughtful Mother’s Day..
I realize not everyone has the same experience…
I’ve been reflecting on how nice it is for the kids to really take the time out to THINK about their mothers and how much they really appreciate you, and go above beyond to make you feel special on Mother’s Day..
My boys are 9 & 11..
I think it’s great to see the thought behind the gifts they pick from the Mother’s Day stall at school, and the words and creativity in the card and breakfast they want to make you..
They have it all planned out in their heads.
I’m so proud to have such lovely boys and the relationship we have created with each other over the years.
Watching them become more capable, able, and independent.
As they grow up I have moments of panic ..
⁃ that in a flash of time they will be gone and have become adults with their own lives!
Makes me dive right into being present in the moment and spending as much time creating memories with them as possible
I read something the other day about how we celebrate all the FIRSTS
But, no one prepares you for the LASTS!
That hit hard..
I realize we may not being entirely present all the time to cherish in those ‘lasts ‘as they grow up, we are all in rush to grow up, but the ‘lasts’ they really hit hard the older they get..
The last crawl
The last bottle
The last breast feed
The last time they wore that special outfit
The last time they were spoon fed
The last time you changed a nappy
The last time in the cot
The last time they needed you to dress them
The last time you made them breakfast
The last time …..
Fast approaching for me is…
What about that last day of primary school .. .High school ….
The last day you drive them before they get their license and drive themselves
I remember my father telling me how much his heart hurt when I drove out the driveway the first time after getting my license..
Pride and sadness
Pride he had done everything for me for 17years and set me up the best a strong independent woman capable of taking care of myself ..
Sadness that I didn’t need him in the same way anymore
I realize that this is an inevitable outcome as we are constantly grooming our children to grow up and thrive and stand in their own power.
I wanted to share with you, that you’re not alone, that I and we are here for you, to support you to continue to grow and thrive and be the best person you can be,
I don’t think we ever stop growing and evolving,
We are all on this merry go round together!
I’m so proud of you all, out there juggling life and the many things that get thrown our way, you still stand tall, and you still get shit done.
Be proud of yourself
Know that you are doing the best you can and that’s all anyone could ever ask of you.
I want to take a moment to touch on the women that have babies that are no longer with us and the women who couldn’t conceive or chose not..
Life is such a journey, I couldn’t imagine the struggles you have faced and the pain endured, and I really struggled to have words to show you how much I care about you and how proud I am of you to still take care of yourself and your family, to still stand tall and proud and to experience life’s adventures slightly differently,
But know that we as women have the power to support and lift each other, to raise awareness that not every Mother’s Day is celebrated the same, not everyone was gifted the same way.
The struggles we all face throughout our lives, some much greater than others, we are all here together.
It’s the community that is created,
To share together
Care together
Love together
Grieve together
Live together
Be better together
Thank you to each and every one of you for being a part of my life,
My heart could not be as full as it is without you all.
So thank you.
Feel free to reach out to me to share your own FIRSTS & LASTS I would be honored to hear them.
I am here for you, as is this community of powerful women.
